Over the recent bank holiday here in the UK, I headed to Istanbul for a long weekend away. Istanbul is a beautiful city with lots to do, so I have a couple of recommendations and places where you should go if you ever find yourself visiting…

Tourist Time

These are some key tourist places you should visit mainly consisting of beautiful buildings with a lot of history behind them

  • Hagia Sophia
  • Topkapi Palace
  • Blue Mosque
  • Visit to Asian side – I never knew that Turkey is actually located in both Europe and Asia! To go to the Asian side you get a short boat ride over (20 minutes) where there are more restaurants, shops etc to enjoy.

Shopping

  • Grand Bazaar – Market shopping with a difference – great if you are looking for jewellery, replica handbags, rugs, leather, glass lanterns or china.
  • Taxim Square – commercial shopping
  • Galata – Cute shopping village

In terms of restaurants I am not going to lie, I didn’t go to many local ones so I can’t report back but Le Petit Maison and Shake Shack are good 🙂
