Get the GLOW

MAC mineralize skin finish, charlotte tilbury, benefit, topshop, nars

I love a good highlight, it instantly lifts your face both in complexion and also dimension. The are so many highlighters on the market so I thought I would share with you and give you my thoughts on some that I have in my makeup stash…

(See swatches below)

1. MAC Minersalize Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle

This is probably up there with my one of my all time favourites along with the Bobbi Brown shimmer brick. The colour is one that could be used on any skin tone and it just gives the skin the most beautiful light golden highlight without giving you a glittery look. Overall I prefer to use powder highlighters because I just find them the easiest to apply.

2. L’Oreal Lumi Magique

As I have mentioned in a previous video before, this product can be used two ways due to its liquid formula. The first is as a direct highlight for example straight onto the top of the cheekbones and the other is to mix a small amount with your foundation. This will make the foundation appear a lot more radiant and dewy. As is it very white in colour I would suggest this would be good for a highlight on lighter skin tones.

3. Benefit High Beam

High beam is a light pink shade with a consistency of a thick liquid that is super easy to blend onto the skin, for this I would normally use a small fluffy brush. It leaves a lovely subtle dewy highlight so one that would be great during summer when you’re in the sun as it doesn’t look obvious.

4. Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow

This is definitely the most luxurious highlight that I own and boy does it pack a punch! Its smooth buttery formula makes it easy to apply and just gives the best golden glow ever. Do watch out in the sun though as it is very glittery!

5. Nars Illuminator in Orgasm

Out of all the highlighters, this is probably the i one to use because if it is not applied correctly it can really mess up your makeup. It is very liquid-y so I wouldn’t recommend applying it straight to your face as it can make your foundation go patchy. The best way I have found is to put a bit on the back of your hand and then use a stippling brush to pick up a small amount to then dot and blend onto the areas where it is needed. As it is quite a dark bronze/orange colour I would recommend this for darker skin tones.

6. MAC Pigment in Vanilla

This is actually an eyeshadow however it works beautifully as a highlight too, so if you have this one you get two for the price of one! As it is a loose pigment it can get a little messy but it gives a light golden glow that is stunning wherever it is used on the face.

7. Topshop Glow

This is very gold in colour and has a cream/mousse type texture, I find this best to apply with my fingers and then dab onto the tops of my cheekbones. I like using this one in the summer as it looks a little more natural than powder. Unfortunately as I am writing this I have realised that they no longer have it available on the website, so perhaps it might be discontinued!
